Many years ago I was handed a book authored by a Mr Stephen Weir and entitled ‘History’s Worst Decisions’ and the people who made them.
Located in the Banda Sea and part of the Banda and Spice islands is the tiny rocky outcrop of the island of Run.
Run was traded by the English to the Dutch in exchange for their fort settlement of New Amsterdam. This walled fort was built in 1624 on what we now know as Manhattan Island.
Manhattan Island today is the home of New York, America, and strangely but curiously it is also popularly known as ‘The Big Apple’.
To me this exchange just didn’t seem balanced or fair and so could there have been another more plausible reason for this unequal handover that was agreed to at the Treaty of Breda in 1663?
Could the signing of this binding treaty really have been just a stupid decision by the Dutch at this time in our history?
It didn’t matter to me it just didn’t seem right. The burning desire from within to know why this seemingly one-sided event occurred in our history patiently grew and then one day it blossomed.
I began by reading all sorts of books and as one book led me to another, and then another, my search for the elusive answer to my question became evermore clearer and closer.
The answer will no doubt blow your mind, just as a tree will blow in the wind, as I join history’s dots in an investigative and fascinating expose of Humanity’s deepest and darkest secret that has been forever lurking within our entire written and unwritten (pre-writing) history.
It is truly a fabulous journey through this hidden and censored chapter of our history that I am sure we were never meant to know but this unique and irreducible truth about us must be told.
